One of my goals for this year's garden was to fertilize more than I did last year. Of course, I'm too poor to afford buying fertilizer, so I came up with a cheaper plan. When I pull weeds, I put them in my watering bucket to make a tea. Surely there are some nutrients in these unwanted greens that would be useful for my plants, right? I actually have two watering buckets; I keep them under the overhang to gather rainwater. With the weeds that I've put into them, and a few weeks of steeping, the water is now a lovely shade of murky brown-beige. Beautiful.
Only one problem: I can't use it!
It has been raining about every other day here for a month (hence the term "April showers," I guess.) The plants barely get a chance to dry out a bit, when it rains again. I haven't even needed to water them. I suppose I should be grateful for the break, since I have been extremely busy this month, but I'm also a bit miffed at Mother Nature for spoiling my well-made plans.
I have several plants with yellowish leaves, which I'm thinking means they are hungry and want some nice, brown, home-made fertilizer. But I don't want to over-water, since we've had so much rain.
