It may be coincidence, but it seems to me that shortly after I picked some leaves from my Arugula and Swiss Chard, they both reacted by getting rust-colored spots on their leaves and looking kind of sick. I have lots of orange leaves in my Arugula, and many of their leaves are getting orange-yellow on the edges, as well as some spots on them. The Chard has the same problem. Are they pouting because they've figured out that their sole purpose in life is for me to eat them?
ha ha, probably not.
It's probably one of the following reasons:
1) they don't like how warm the weather has been the past few days (they are supposed to be cool-weather crops).
2) they are missing some vital nutrient that I, the dutiful gardener, am supposed to be providing them.
3) they are too crowded in their pots and need some more root room.
4) they've contracted some kind of virus or fungus.
I can't think of any other possibility, but that doesn't mean that there aren't others.
What's your vote?
The good news is, it doesn't look like a disease to me. The bad news is, I have no idea what exactly it is, though options 1-3 are all good guesses. Maybe a combination of them...?
ReplyDeleteWell, Swiss Chard does get pretty big, so 3 seems likely - if you've got the space, maybe you could try transplanting some?
